Morphological Evolution
Various forces shape the evolution of traits that influence the mating decisions of males and females. In turn, these forces underlie fundamental questions about species diversity. We have employed 3D computed tomography scanning followed by spherical harmonic analysis to study the morphology of the mating structures of the Enallagma damselfly clade. This analysis allows us to both understand the evolutionary process underlying speciation, as well as make predictions as to the mating structure of historical ancestors.
