Undergraduate Parallel Computing A Workshop July 7-18, 1997 Sponsored by The National Science Foundation and Colgate University Instructors Chris Nevison Nan Schaller Colgate University Rochester Institute of Technology chris@cs.colgate.edu ncs@cs.rit.edu Web page: http://cs.colgate.edu/faculty/nevison.pub/parallel.html The purpose of this workshop is to prepare undergraduate faculty for teaching parallel computing in the undergraduate curriculum, either in separate courses or by adding topics to standard courses. The workshop will include hands-on work with the 32-node PowerXplorer parallel system at Colgate. Participants will be introduced to SIMD parallel computing using Parallaxis and Distributed Memory MIMD parallel computing with the standard libraries MPI or PVM. Participants will be prepared to develop their own courses or units on parallel computing. There will be a follow-up meeting in January or February, 1998. Room and Board and all costs of the workshop except travel are covered by the NSF funding. To apply, send a letter to Chris Nevison at the address given below.
