Stroop Effect

Reading quickly from top to bottom, left to right, say out loud the color of the ink of each word.

When the name and ink color are the same (top two rows), this is easy. When the name and the ink color are different, however, most people cannot avoid reading and saying the name, instead of its color. This Stroop effect demonstrates what happens when two different perceptual processes, reading text and color perception, conflict.
