When the cover of Star magazine featured this photograph of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the couple was still only rumored to have a romantic relationship. The photograph was also a fake. The setting and shadows suggest the photograph was taken outdoors on a sunny day. Jolie's shadow on the sand, the shadow under her chin, her evenly illuminated face and the lighting gradient around her right leg, all suggest she is facing the sun. The right side of Pitt's face should also be facing the sun. But it doesn't. Pitt's face is shadowed, and he is turned toward a sun that is positioned more than 90 degrees away from the sun illuminating Jolie. Our further mathematical analysis confirms that the position of the light illuminating Pitt and Jolie are inconsistent with one another.
