Family of Renaissance Lutes
During the latter part of the Renaissance lutes were made in various sizes. This picture shows a treble in D, with string length 44 cm, an alto in A at 55 cm, a tenor in G at 64 cm and a small bass in E at 76 cm. A large bass lute in D might have a string length of 80 to 90 cm. Click on the picture to view a larger version.
