Paul Beier was born in Salt Lake City and graduated from the Royal College of Music, London, where he studied under Diana Poulton. For over 20 years he has taught lute, continuo, and ensemble at the Early Music Institute of the Accademia Internazionale della Musica in Milan. He has also had an active international career as a soloist and in various ensembles, including Galatea, which he founded and directs. His solo recordings of lute music include monographs on Francesco da Milano, Laurencinus Romanus, Molinaro, Terzi, Galilei, Piccinini, Weiss-Falkenhagen, and the complete solo works for lute by Bach.
