Kaspar D. Mainz is renowned throughout Europe as a choreographer and teacher of character dance and period movement style. Formerly a professional ballet dancer in numerous European theaters and opera houses, Mr. Mainz is the Artistic Director of the music/dance/theater company, Deliciae Theatrales, which specializes in presenting historical dance and music to children. Mr. Mainz has taught at the University of Leipzig, University (Musikhochschule) of Nürnberg-Augsburg, Paluccaschule (Dresden), Salzburg University, Salzburg Mozarteum, and the University of Graz. He currently directs a Baroque dance ensemble at the Handelhaus in Halle, Germany. Mr. Mainz is the Artistic Director of the New York Historical Dance Company and has co-authored four books on historical dance, including Terrstepery, A Primer for Historical Dance. Dorothy Olsson is the founder and Director of The New York Historical Dance Company and is a well-known teacher and choreographer of historical dance in the eastern United States. Dorothy teaches at the Country Dance and Song Society Early Music Week and at the Amherst Early Music Festival, where she has directed and/or choreographed several historical theatrical productions. She received her Ph.D. in Performance Studies at New York University with a dissertation on early twentieth-century dance; for ten years she was an Assistant Professor of Dance Education at New York University, where she taught music and dance history. Dr. Olsson has co-authored four books on historical dance, including Terrstepery, A Primer for Historical Dance; her article Seventeenth Century Dance appears in A Performer's Guide to Seventeenth-Century Music (ed. Stewart Carter, Schirmer Books). |
