Ronn McFarlane and Ellen Hargis approached the delivery of the ballad from several different angles: self-accompanied, unaccompanied or as a group presentation.
Although Garald has quite a lot of experience as a self-accompanied performer, he was still able to pick up some tips to improve his presentation, both from Ronn and Ellen and from other members of the class.
Here Robin works on her unaccompanied delivery.
A considerable amount of time was also spent examining specific examples examples of ballads provided by Ellen, working toward dramatic presentations by the group. These almost took the form of mini operas, with different characters played by different participants, different styles of accompaniment (or none) used to suit the mood of the line being delivered and instrumental interludes inserted periodically.
