Earl Christy began his musical studies on the lute in 1992 with Greg Hamilton in Ann Arbor. In 1993 he began studying with Lyle Nordstrom at Clayton State University. In 1994 Earl was introduced to the baroque lute through Edward Martin and subsequently moved to Duluth, Minnesota, to attend The College of St. Scholastica, where Mr. Martin is the lute professor. After two thorough years of study on baroque lute under Edward Martin, Earl was accepted as a student by Toyohiko Satoh at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag, the Netherlands. In 2000 Earl was awarded a Bachelors degree and in 2002 a Masters degree in Early music Performance Practice from the Conservatory. From 2002 until 2004 he studied with Nigel North at Indiana University, Bloomington. Earl is currently continuing his baroque lute studies with Paul Beier in Milan, Italy, through the generosity of the Fondazione Marco Fodella. He specializes in music of the lutes Galant period.
