
Some duo performances were by married couples and other well- established pairings, in this case Joseph and Kathleen Mayes.

Another regular ensemble, Leah Baranov and Ruben de Semprun from New York, who frequently play Elizabethan and other duets written for equal instruments on lutes an octave apart, as shown here. This gives a completely new perspective on the music.

Other presentations were by players who did not previously know each other and were randomly paired up to demonstrate how to approach building a duet relationship. Elizabeth Todd and Bill Thatcher worked together well on A Dump, by John Johnson.

Coaching and class discussions were followed by additional runs through the music, trying out the suggestions provided.

Old friends who live on opposite coasts of the US, who see each other only at these Festivals, also had a chance to play together. Here it is Sean Smith and Bob Clair.
