Lunch was not provided as a part of the
meal plan; however, some people managed
to find time to go out to eat off campus.
(Richard Fletcher, Caroline, and Jason Kortis.)

The youngest participant at the Lute Festival
seems to have no interest in the free pizza
that was provided Thursday noon to
encourage attendance at the Annual Meeting.

Most people skipped lunch and did a little practicing or
napped and then arrived early for the 1 PM concert and
stood around outside the chapel conversing with friends.

Andy Rutherford tried out a 6-course
lute in the chapel between events.

Here Betsy Small managed to get in
some practice time in an open
classroom late one afternoon.

Paul O’Dette checking out one of the
lutes luthier Malcolm Prior brought
along, while Chris Morrongiello listens.

Sterling Price checking out a very nice
Baroque lute that John Butterfield made.

Jason Kortis, grinning over his new lute,
delivered in person at the 2006 Lute
Festival by luthier Daniel Larson.

More serious practicing usually took place in
the dorms after the evening concert was over.
Here Garald Farnham listens to Jocelyn Nelson.

Monday evening Earl Christy ran a dress
rehearsal of his program for the Tuesday 1 PM
concert
before a small, attentive audience.

Dale Young does a Kilroy with his thunder-Rauche.

More informal playing also took place.
Here a group reads duets, with obviously
more than one person per part.  Left to right,
Dick Hoban, Mike Peterson, Nancy Gabriel,
Jim Stimson and Garald Farnham.

Some administrative operations took place
on the fly.  Late Wednesday evening Daniel Heiman
and Dick Hoban were still editing the questionnaire
to be handed out at Thursday’s Annual Meeting.

At the end of the day people did still find the time
just to sit around talking and relaxing.

At least until a certain luteaholic came along and
suggested that they all try out a newly edited quartet
for equal lutes.  After the wine, it was helpful to
have more than one player on some of the parts.

Another view of the quartet action.

Duelling cameras take in the scene.

A trio for unequal lutes followed,
with all the parts doubled.
