Lute Festival 2006 Classes
Gail Gillispie:  All the Renaissance Music Theory You Need to Know

Gail's class was in a lecture/demonstration format.

In medieval music the perfect fourth is considered a consonant interval. In the Renaissance a perfect fourth against the bass is considered a dissonance, though not when it occurs between upper voices.

As an exercise, go through a Lassus bicinium and analyze where the dissonant and consonant intervals fall.
