Catherine Liddell has performed as a lute duo (with partner Robert Strizich) in concerts across the US and in Europe. Together they recorded three LPs. She has also recorded two solo CDs and is editor of a volume of sacred music for lute, available through Lyre Publications.
In addition to these performances, she is much in demand for her skill as an continuo player on theorbo and lute. She has performed with many of the major period-instrument ensembles in North America, including the Handel & Haydn Society, Boston Baroque, Tafelmusik, the Folger Consort, Smithsonian Chamber Ensemble, Seattle Baroque Orchestra, Apollo's Fire and the New York Collegium, among others.
Catherine Liddell's long teaching career has included numerous workshops throughout the country on such topics as performing lute music on the classical guitar; aspects of realising accompaniments from a figured bass (with particular emphasis on the interaction between singer and accompanist), performing French baroque lute music, and sacred music for the lute. She is currently a Teaching Associate in the School of Music at Boston University, and she has served on the faculties of the Longy School of Music and the San Francisco Conservatory. She teaches regularly at the Lute Society of America Summer Seminars and has served as President and Editor of Music Editions for that organization.
