Lute Festival 2006 Classes
Paul O’Dette:  Renaissance Lute Master Class

Paul O’Dette is always in high demand for the private lessons that
are offered to each person registered for the LSA Seminars. Since
there are many more requests than can be accommodated by his
schedule, conducting his course in master-class format allows
some additional participants to benefit from Paul’s skill and
experience as a player and excellent instructional capabilities.

Here Betsy Small follows the example Paul is providing.

Travis Carey takes his turn. The material
on the board is from Gail Gillispie’s class.

“When playing with thumb-under technique, don't be aftaid of
getting your thumb caught inside your hand. It just will not
happen.” Bill Thatcher tries to imitate the motion.

Ruben de Semprun in the hot seat with his bass lute.

Guitars are allowed as well, particularly if they are
of the Renaissance or Baroque variety.
Here Jocelyn Nelson gets her chance.

“Some teachers tell students to find the fastest passage in a piece
and base the whole tempo of the piece on that passage. You
can’t sabotage an entire piece of music by forcing it to go at
a ludicrous tempo just because of one small ornament!”

Paul casts his spell over a young student.
