Paul’s Renaissance Lute Topics course was taught
partly in a lecture-discussion format.


The remainder of the time was devoted to working through
specific pieces with individual participants in a master class format.

Articulation of cantabile phrases needs to be smooth to contrast with more rhythmic sections.
When you move to a new harmony, stretch a bit after the arrival chord, like this....


One of your important jobs as a performer is to make the music clear
for the audience.  Establishing the weight relationship between the pickup
and the downbeat chords is critical in order to initiate the listeners to the piece.
