[Back to Hillstompers]   [Mts. Washington and Monroe Thread in the Hillstompers Forum]

In the begining there were four...

just a waterfall

hey who stole the mountian?? very cloudy, but not disheartned we stomp on...

Droola being true to his name...

Swimmin' ole. purdy.

just another waterfall....

quite misty/hazy, but a nice view...

our first glimpse of the hell train - loud, smelly, and completly bothersome.

getting into the alpine forest - don't touch!

Fishnutz (aka. Mike Owens), "I'd rather be fishing"

It's off to the heavens we go.

But wait, look, it's a bird, it's a plain, it's, umm clouds...

The final ascent to Mt. Monroe, and look, a map for buried treasure. (actually a don't touch or you'll be shot letter from the tree police.)

Captain Zenzoid and Fishnutz posing at the AMC hut where they will be spending the night.

Arial view of said hut...

Tuckermans Ravine is just over that edge there..

Still can't see the big one...

Tuckerman's Ravine again - to Anka's joy... (don't ask why)

Alright doggie, outta da way.

Short attention span... don'tcha know.

A series on "Clouds and a Mountain": 1

2

3

4. (Ah there it is! Can you believe it, the rest of the day was cloudless and perfect
those weathermen are hairy monkeys, yup, hairy monkeys - we didn't see a sign of rain or sleet.)

On the other side of Mt. Monroe... Mt. Something or other.

NewGear(blue) and ThriftGear(green) taking off into the wild blue yonder.

A look back at Mt. Monroe...

Some water near the AMC Hut... Care for a n'ice dip anyone?

We should have paid more attention to this sign....
"...worst weather ... mmhm .... in the world ... many people have died there ... unhuh .... I prefer a good mystery book myself ... "

xThe water was so cold, Droola wouldn't touch it...

"One mo' mile..."

just "One mo' mile...."

And.. we made it! The Summit... ok that's it, no free doughnuts or anything.... man that was too easy.
(does Droola know how to pose or what?)

And at the top, surveying his creation...

Hey kid, no pictures, unless you pay me royalties ok...

Uh oh, not again... OR "Waater, I need Water..."

Parting is such sweat sorrow. (actually the sweating came later, but we did part.
CZ and Fishnutz went to Tuckermans and then back the the AMC hut, while Anka, Zingman and Droola,
looped back down to the trailhog parking. CZ's fatherly leadership was strongly felt as the fledglings flew off on their own.)

Hey look thats Mt. Monroe and the AMC hut....

Some more of the Presidentials on the North/West side...

"Don't look down..."

More Presidents...

About half a mile from here - an environmentail air testing facility. Ironic no?

I can smell it from here... (Mt. Monroe in the background)

The Jewel trail down.. "One mo mile.."

Hey, I'm not limping ok!

Another one of Mt. Monroe... and a victim of the coal smoke from that darned train...

Another one of Mt. Washington...

Droola dragging butt...

"Ack, What is THAT?" or mini-loch-ness in a stream.

"Help it bit my leg off!" or "One mo mile.."

Ain't I'm great - purdy waterfall....

um, look, flowers.

Another casualty of the trail... "Can I get some help over here!"

Mt. W. from the road....

Mt. M from the road...

Special Thanks go to Hillstomper Fishnutz for our new slogan "One mo' mile..."

This production has been made possible by the continuous support of our muscles and bones,
and the generous amounts of pain we endure.

See you next time, and remember folks:

It's really just "One mo' mile!"
