Mandola, by A Lawrence Smart, built July 2001, with gold hardware,
gold schaller tuners that work extremely smoothly, bound neck and body, matte varnish finish,
gently radiused fingerboard,
ebony pickguard, matte finish, and a Deluxe Calton hardshell case.
16 3/8 scale length.
The scale is short enough so that I can do the bluegrass chop
chords on it and it has its own "bark" though in a different
range from a mandolin. Single notes have a nice ring and two finger
chords resonate beautifully on it,
click here for a sampe of how it
sounds. It was recorded to the microphone on my laptop, I am rusty on
my chop chords.. Maybe I will put up a better sample in a few days.
The mandola would
cost $4900 if you were to buy it new today, and the case would cost
another $490.
This instrument is sold
This instrument has had all too little use, so the finish is pretty
much like new! I have light strings on it now which don't do the
tone justice, but are easy on my fingers.
