Pedagogical book in upright folio format. It was bound in the late 17th century with Ms.Dd.4.21. Despite the presence of music by Robert Johnsonand John Sturt, Lumsden dated the book c1600, as he felt that the notational features supported thatdate. Poulton pointed out that the 'Noble Men's Maske Tune'probably came from Cyril Tourneur's lost tragi-comedy, The Nobleman, which was played at Court in 1613, and is known to have contained a maske, and dated the book 'after 1613'. c1615 is therefore the most likely date for this small collection which was almost certainly written over a very short time, perhaps only a matter of days or weeks. The first scribe appears to have been the pupil of the second, who may havebeen Richard Allison, and is discussed in Chapter 7.
