16 Ricercars From the Sienna Lute Manuscript

A while ago people were putting out their lists of essential repertoire. I would like to add one edition. "16 Ricercars from the Siena Lute Manuscript." Wonderful book. Every piece in this book is a gem. Playable, wonderful imitation, syncopation and lovely phrasing. I have many collections of Italian Ricercars, but this book is at the top of my current list of things to play, everyone should have this book.

Oscar Chilesotti's "Da un Codice Lautenbuch del Quiquecento"

complete, in French lute tablature: $20.00 plus $5.00 postage This manuscript was published in guitar nonation by Chilesotti in 1891 and was subsequently lost. It has now been re-intabulated for the lute. Our book contains all 99 pieces published by Chilesotti (157 pgs of lute tablature) plus some source information and a manuscript index. Some of Rasphigi's "Ancient Airs and Dances for Lute" were inspired by pieces in this collection. Most of the music in this book is easy to intermediate and quite enjoyable to play.

The Rowallan Manuscript

This edition of Scottish lute music has approx. forty pages of tablature. Many of these pieces have been featured on the recordings of Ronn MacFarlane and Jakob Lindberg. It is now available for $18.00 plus $2.00 postage.

The Straloch Manuscript

Used by permission of the National Library of Scotland and transcribed by Wayne Cripps, this volume contains 30 pages of Scottish Lute music in French tablature. Three elegant suites originally composed for theorbo by Robert de Visee have been thoughtfully transcribed for lute in renaissance tuning by Arto Wikla of Finland.
