CS 34 Project Milestone-- John Eikens

Accomplished so far:

• Built a functional RSS reader using the ROME library and Java Netbeans, capable of aggregating and displaying feeds
• Built a user interface which allows the user to rate stories and create a training set for the support vector machine.
• Began coding of functions to transform RSS items into feature vectors appropriate for text classification.

Assessment

So far in the project, most of my work has focused on building a front-end for the RSS reader classification application I'm creating, with most of the implementation of the algorithms I plan to use yet undone. I haven't quite reached all of my goals for the milestone as laid out in the project proposal, as I had hoped to complete the code for converting RSS entries into feature vectors. This is part because setting up the GUI for the RSS reader took longer than I anticipated, as I decided to work with a Java framework I was unfamiliar with.
