This professorship was established by Champion International, a paper and wood products company based in Stamford, Connecticut, to honor its former CEO Andrew Sigler ’53, Tuck ’56. Sigler was responsible for redesigning and significantly improving the company’s manufacturing operations and quality of products. Several years later, the company was acquired by International Paper.

As a loyal alumnus, Sigler served as a member of the Dartmouth Board of Trustees and an overseer of the Tuck School. He also served on a number of boards of directors, including GE, RCA, Bristol Meyer, Morgan Stanley, and Chemical Bank, in addition to non-profits like the Yale School of Management. He moved to Norwich in retirement and remained actively engaging with his alma mater.

Dartmouth is extremely fortunate to have generous alumni and friends who have chosen to invest in our academic community by endowing a named professorship like International Paper. These chairs are intended to recognize outstanding records of teaching and scholarship by our faculty.
